Let’s Talk About Your Profile Picture

Kevin Willett says a picture is worth a thousand words and one of the most important of those words is likability

Last week I was viewing some social media profiles and I came across perhaps the angriest looking profile picture I have ever seen. Now this person would be perfect for my networking events, but I was hesitant to reach out to him because of his picture.

Now you might think that is silly, but as we all know, we tend to do business with people we know, like and trust. What does your profile picture say about you? Do you look likable? I know some people like to use a serious picture so that they come across as a professional, and I can respect that, but there is a fine line between serious and angry. Please be sure that you don’t cross that line because it may be costing you business. Your profile picture is sometimes the first thing that people see. Make sure your picture is updated, complimentary and comes across as you being a likable person.

The Proper Way to Say No

Kevin Willett says there is a right way and a wrong way to turn somebody down.

The simple answer to the question is to say no nicely.

Let me give you two examples. I reached out to a person to ask them if they were interested in attending business networking events and they responded NOPE!!!!!!!! Really, is that necessary? Did they really need to use that many exclamation points and all caps?

This morning I had a person respond by saying thank you for reaching out to me, but it’s not a match for my business at this time.

The answer is no in both scenarios, but the second person was polite and left the door open for us to do business in the future.

You want to be careful about being mean, negative or sarcastic when you respond to emails. You never know when you may need or want that person’s help in the future. I won’t ever invite or consider working with that first person again. It amazes me how people are connected and the impact a mean message can have on your business.

Go Eat Cake

Kevin Willett says balance is the best way to be successful

Last night was my nephew’s 5th birthday, so I went over his house and had a few slices of cake with him. Now It would have been easy to skip the party because it was a weeknight, I had a bad day, and I still had plenty of work to do.

But he is my favorite nephew and I wouldn’t want to let him down. I loved watching his eyes bug out of his head when he unwrapped his gifts. Nothing I could have done last night would have been more important as that to me. I find that when I spend time with him it recharges my battery and makes me a better entrepreneur.

The challenge is we listen to the “gurus” and they tell you about how they grew their business by working twenty-four hours a day and how they skipped family events. Now they are so successful, and you should do what they did. But if we don’t follow their lead why can’t we still be successful?

I think you must spend some time thinking about finding balance in your life. If you become financially successful, but you don’t have any family and friends to celebrate with, will it be worth it? Only you can decide the answer to that question my friend.
